Matthew Brian Monroe

October 26, 1969 — March 12, 2026

In the gentle embrace of the early morning on March 12, 2026, our beloved Matthew Brian Monroe, at the age of 56, peacefully departed this world. Born on October 26, 1969, in Hayward, California, at the Kaiser Hospital, Matthew was a beacon of light to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his cause of death remains unknown, the impact of his life is beautifully evident in the hearts of those he touched. Matthew was the cherished son of the late James W. Monroe and Gladys Marie Monroe. His formative years were spent in the warm company of his family, nurtured by love and laughter. He was predeceased by his loving mother Gladys Monroe, his devoted stepmother Bethia Monroe, his dear brother Mark Monroe, and his father, James Monroe. Yet, his legacy continues to flourish through his surviving family members: his beloved sons, Matthew Monroe II, fondly known as "Little Matt," and Isaiah Brian Monroe. He is also remembered by his brothers James, Scott, Nicholas, and Jacob Monroe; his sisters Shannon, Sarah, Allison, and Morgan Monroe; and his sister Justine Farina. Matthew's life was enriched by the meaningful relationships he cultivated. He shared a special bond with Tajmonique Westbrook, with whom he welcomed his first son, Little Matt, in October 1998. Matthew later found love and companionship with Waynette Lovely, and together they were blessed with their second son, Isaiah. A man of intellect and perseverance, Matthew pursued his education with dedication. He began his academic journey at St. Cyril's Grammar School, continued to Machesney Middle School, and graduated from Alameda High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to Carrington, where he graduated with honors in Pharmacy Technology, a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence. However, it was in the vibrant world of bingo that Matthew found his true passion. A bingo caller for over 30 years, he was renowned for his charismatic presence and his ability to bring joy to others. His love for the game was so profound that he immortalized his birth year in a tattoo within a bingo ball—a symbol of his deep connection to the community he so cherished. A celebration of Matthew's life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Foothill Square Bingo, located at 10700 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland, CA. Here, family and friends will gather to honor the memory of a man who lived with an open heart and a joyful spirit. Matthew Brian Monroe's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unyielding kindness. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, filled with cherished moments and enduring connections. May his memory inspire us to embrace life with the same warmth and generosity that he did. Rest in peace, dear Matthew. You will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
