Matilde Hurtado

It is with heavy hearts and deep respect that we announce the passing of Matilde Hurtado, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on September 1, 2026, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Born on March 14, 1949, in Pihuamo, Jalisco, Matilde lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Matilde was the cherished wife of Candelario Soto, with whom she shared 28 beautiful years of marriage. Their love story began in Watts, California, where they were married in 1998. Together, they raised six children: Salvador Diaz, Miguel Angel Diaz, Irma Diaz, Rosa Lopez, Jaime Lopez, Delia Hurtado, Jorge Soto, and Claudia Soto. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing them with kindness and love. Before dedicating her life to her family, Matilde worked at Hollywood Park, walking horses with grace and care. Her transition from career to family life was seamless, as she poured her heart into raising her children and later, delighting in the company of her 25 grandchildren. A devout Catholic, Matilde's faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She instilled the same values in her children, teaching them the importance of faith and the strength it provides. Her love for nature was evident in her passion for planting flowers. Matilde found joy in the simple act of walking and would often admire a beautiful bloom, taking a piece to nurture in her own garden. Her love for plants was as unique as her spirit, a testament to her nurturing nature. Matilde had a gift for bringing joy to those around her. Known for her beautiful smile and infectious laughter, she could find light in any situation. Her sense of humor was a balm to many, and her lovely curly hair was as memorable as her laughter. Matilde’s warmth and light will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her children, Jorge Soto and Claudia Soto, who she now joins in eternal rest. Her legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of her surviving family, including her devoted spouse, Candelario, her children, and her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Matilde’s generous spirit and love for her community. To Matilde Hurtado, a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many: you were a mom, sister, daughter, and grandmother. We will forever hold you in our hearts.
