In Loving Memory

MASHON YOUNG
January 15, 1989 — May 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mashon Young, who left this world far too soon on May 16, 2026, at the age of 37. Born on January 15, 1989, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, Mashon's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience.
The beloved son of Tonya Lamb and Atoy Young, Mashon grew up surrounded by the love of his family. Though he experienced the loss of several cherished family members, including his grandparents, Rosie and Andrew Young Sr., his sister Shonique Young, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins, he carried their memories with him, honoring their legacy through his own life.
Mashon was a devoted husband to Geneva Coleman Young, whom he married on September 23, 2017, in the heart of Chicago. Together, they shared ten wonderful years, raising their blended family of seven children with boundless love and laughter. Mashon's legacy lives on in his daughters, Ke'Osha, Shonique, and Abrielle, as well as his stepchildren, Danyelle, Rihanna, Daniya, and Dearies. He was also a proud grandfather to two adored grandchildren.
A man of unwavering dedication, Mashon worked as a housekeeper at the University of Chicago Medicine for three years. Known affectionately as a "Good Guy," he was recognized for his hard work, dependability, and his inherent kindness that left a lasting impression on those around him.
Mashon's heart was as expansive as his interests, which included a deep love for dogs and fishing. He was an ambitious soul, always eager to build and improve, which was evident in his cherished hobby of working on his van. His infectious smile and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Although his life was tragically cut short, Mashon's spirit remains close, as reflected in the comforting words of Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
A celebration of Mashon's life will be held on June 3, 2026, at 9:30 AM at the Calahan Funeral Home, located at 7046 S Halsted, Chicago, Illinois 60621. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, prayers, and kindness shown by so many during this difficult time. They feel blessed to have the warmth of such wonderful people surrounding them.
Mashon Young's life, though brief, was filled with love, laughter, and a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift his family and friends. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
