It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mashon Young, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Born on January 15, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois, Mashon departed this world far too soon on May 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be cherished forever by those who knew him.
Mashon was the treasured son of Tonya Lamb and Atoy Young. He was preceded in death by his sister Shonique Young, his grandparents Rosie and Andrew Young Sr., his great-grandfather James E. Williams, uncles Walter and Keith Young, cousin Jimmie Johnson, and a very special cousin, Allen Young. Each loss marked his heart, yet Mashon faced life's adversities with resilience and grace, his spirit remaining unbroken by the tragedies that took him from us.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Geneva Young, with whom he shared nine wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with joy, laughter, and love, raising their daughters Keosha, Abrielle, and Shonique. The pride and joy of his life, Mashon was a dedicated and loving father who cherished every moment spent with his girls. His legacy continues through his daughters and his two grandchildren, who will grow up hearing stories of their grandfather's boundless love and unwavering dedication.
Mashon is also survived by his sisters Latoy, Surlena, Shonna Young, and a special sister, Shante McCants, along with a large and loving extended family including great-aunts Patricia Whiters and Yvette Carr; aunts Isabella, Dorothy, Maggie, Kathy, Debra (Quentin), Bonnie Young, Aleena’s Howard, Tiana, Montell, and Tre-von Nolan (Indiana); and uncles Jimmie Goin, JaDuan Lamb, Lance Nolan Jr., Deshon Nolan, Corey, and Trey Nolan. His life was further enriched by a host of cousins and close friends, each touched by his kindness and loyalty.
Professionally, Mashon contributed his dedication and hard work to The University of Chicago Medicine as a housekeeper for three years. Known for his punctuality, diligence, and amiable nature, he was respected and admired by his colleagues, always bringing a positive energy to those around him.
Beyond his work, Mashon was a man of varied interests. He found peace and happiness in nature, often taking his family fishing, creating cherished memories by the water's edge. His love for animals was evident in the kennel he started, and his passion for his van was a familiar sight to friends and family alike, who would often find him tinkering and perfecting his beloved vehicle.
Mashon was known for his big heart and even bigger smile, attributes that endeared him to all who crossed his path. Intelligent and determined, he had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, his kindness and loyalty leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember Mashon not for the brevity of his years, but for the depth of his impact. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
