Maryanne Margaret Guest

Maryanne Margaret Guest, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away in an uncharacteristic stillness on August 16, 2026. Born on June 29, 1934, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Maryanne was the beloved daughter of Stanley J. and Mary C. Peltier. She was preceded in death by her dear sister Ellen, her loving husband James Rodney Guest, and her grandson Fulton Knoerl. Maryanne graduated from Mount Clemens Saint Mary High School and pursued higher education at Marygrove College. She later transferred to the University of Michigan, where she dedicated herself to her studies in business and education, honoring her father's wishes by double-majoring. Her career led her to Michigan Bell, where she worked diligently and made lasting connections. Maryanne's life was firmly anchored in her faith, and she was an active member of her churches. Initially, she was a devoted member of Gesu Parish in Detroit before moving to Grosse Pointe Woods, where she joined Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her involvement with the Rosary Altar Society and numerous other groups at her parish. She ensured that all her children attended Star of the Sea, instilling in them the values she held dear. A woman of diverse interests, Maryanne found joy in playing bridge with her friends during the day and with her husband, Rod, in the evenings. She was a skilled square dancer, golfer, world traveler, and tennis player. Together, she and Rod delighted in socializing and exploring with the Grosse Pointe Alumni Newcomers and Neighbors Club and the Detroit Audubon Society. Often serving as the Treasurer, Maryanne humorously noted that numbers were simpler to manage than people. Maryanne's heart was both big and kind, and her presence was a source of warmth and love to those around her. Though she was not always the most sensitive person in the room, her intentions were always well-meaning and sincere. Maryanne is survived by her devoted children: David (Kathy), Stanley (Lily), Alan (Amy), Andrew (Karen), Marie (Eric), and Michael (Michelle). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Neil, Jimmy, Felicia (Sean), Christina (John), Mary (Michael), John, Jim (Katie), Peter (Meghan), Joe, Matthew (Abby), Christa, Drew (Kennedy), Mitch, Alex (Lauren), Abbie (Rob), Jack (Andrea), Michael (Rylee), Meg (Leo), Max, Tess, Lauren, and Lucy, and her 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Emily (Daryll) and Robert (Judy). A service to honor Maryanne's remarkable life will be held on August 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at 715 N. Lapeer Road, Lake Orion, MI 48362. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Catholic charity of one's choice. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Frances Ward, Bellbrook Senior Living, for their kindness and patience in caring for Maryanne. Her memory will forever remain a beacon of love and strength for all who were fortunate to know her.
