It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Sanderson, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on April 23, 2026, at the age of 51. Mary passed at home in the comforting embrace of her loved ones, following a courageous and enduring battle with cancer. Mary was born on September 19, 1974, in Pensacola, Florida, to Franklin and Frances Simpson. From a young age, she demonstrated a zest for life and a passion for learning, traits that would define her journey through this world. Mary’s educational path began at J. M. Tate High School, where she graduated in 1992, and continued at the University of West Florida. Driven by her nurturing spirit and desire to heal, Mary further pursued her calling and graduated from Florida’s Therapeutic Massage School in 1998. Her career as a licensed massage therapist allowed her to touch the lives of many, both physically and spiritually, through her work at various spas and clinics. Mary’s hands were not only skilled in providing comfort and relief but also in crafting beautiful jewelry and candles—expressions of her creativity and love for the world around her. Mary’s life was enriched by her many passions. She was an avid reader, finding solace and adventure in the pages of her books. Her garden was a testament to her love for nature, a place where she cultivated not only plants but also peace and reflection. Her interest in homeopathic remedies and aromatherapy spoke to her belief in the healing power of nature and her commitment to living a life of wellness and balance. Family was the cornerstone of Mary’s life. She is survived by her cherished children: her son, Alexander Sanderson, and her daughters, Julianne Williams, Caitlin Sanderson, and Zoey Sanderson. Mary’s legacy of love and laughter will continue through them. She is also survived by her devoted parents, Franklin and Frances Simpson, her beloved sister, Victoria Willoughby, and her dear nephew, Paul Bray, all of whom shared in the warmth of her affection and the joy of her humor. Mary was a woman of remarkable character, known for her quick temper, which was always tempered by her wonderful sense of humor. Her laughter was infectious, and her loyalty as a friend was unwavering. She was a beacon of strength and compassion, touching the lives of everyone she met. During her final days, Mary and her family received exceptional care and support from the dedicated staff at Gentiva Hospice. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to them for making a heartbreaking time more bearable with their kindness and professionalism. Also, for all of the prayers from family, friends and strangers, thank you. Though Mary has left this earthly realm, her spirit will forever dwell in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In celebrating her life, we honor her memory and the indelible impact she made on this world. A private celebration of Mary’s life will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in Mary’s name to Catholic charities. Mary Sanderson will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and healing will continue to inspire us all.
