Obituary: Mary Salazar Romero It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Salazar Romero, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on May 6, 2026, in her cherished hometown of Espanola, New Mexico. Born on September 17, 1950, to the late Isauro and Carmen Salazar, Mary was a cherished daughter who grew up surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Mary was predeceased by her loving parents, her brothers Lawrence, Eddie, Felix, her sons Nathan and Eric Romero, and her nephew Darren Salazar. Her departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those she leaves behind, yet her spirit and love remain with us forever. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 58 years, Michael Romero, and their sons, Norman and Kevin. Her family was the center of her universe, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them. Mary is also survived by her sisters Bernadette and her husband Mardy Martinez Sr., Elaine and her husband Richard Valenzuela, Didi Sena, Melinda and her husband Chuy Chavez, and Leaita Salazar and her girlfriend Paula Monroe. Her brothers Hubert and his son Orlando, Jay and his wife Lori, Milford and his wife Marcella, and Steven and his wife Marie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends, also survive her. Though Mary did not have grandchildren or great-grandchildren, her legacy lives on in the hearts of her extended family and friends. Mary was a homemaker, dedicating her life to raising her four sons with love and care. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with the aroma of her famous green chile enchiladas, which were the best loved by all who had the pleasure of tasting them. Mary had a gift for bringing people together through her cooking, and her kitchen was always a place of laughter, stories, and warmth. Known for her loving nature, Mary had a profound impact on everyone she met. Her friends and family remember her as a compassionate and generous soul who offered kindness and support to all. Her love for her family and friends was boundless, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on May 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ. We invite all who knew and loved Mary to join us in honoring her memory and celebrating a life filled with love, dedication, and kindness. We remember Mary Salazar Romero as a beacon of love and warmth. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her compassion and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.
