In loving memory, we honor the life of Mary Magdaleen Moon Scott, a cherished soul who graced our world with warmth, compassion, and unwavering kindness. Born on September 25, 1938, in Richmond, Virginia, Mary peacefully departed this life on March 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever dwell in the hearts of those who knew her.
Mary was the beloved daughter of Margaret Moon, who predeceased her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Scott Sr., her son Will Scott Jr., and her grandson Daleon Scott. Despite these profound losses, her resilience and inner strength inspired all who witnessed her journey.
Educated in the Richmond public schools, her commitment to learning was evident throughout her life. She dedicated many years to her career at the McGuire Veteran Medical Center, where her exemplary service earned her numerous awards and accolades. Her colleagues admired her dedication, and her compassionate care left a lasting impact on those she served until her well-deserved retirement in February 2000.
Mary’s life was a testament to her faith. From her early acceptance of Christ at Second Baptist Church in South Richmond to her steadfast membership at Swansboro Baptist Church, her spiritual journey was profound and unwavering. Her presence was a source of comfort and strength; she occupied her favorite end seat in the church for many years, a place where her spirit could be felt even after she could no longer attend due to illness.
Her surviving family includes devoted children Rhonda Moon, Katana (Carlton) Miller, Denise (Kenneth) Foster, Mauriel Moon, Denise Moon, and Wayne Scott. Mary’s legacy is further enriched by her grandchildren Jermaine and Rondel Moon, Carlton Jr. (Eudora), Brandon (Kaitlin), Lindsey Miller, Kenneth and Jessica Foster, Joy (Richard) Green, Amanda (Ronitto) Roger, Mauriel Moon Jr., Jason Chaney, and Jabriel Bishop, in addition to numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward the love, compassion, and kindness that Mary so freely shared.
Mary had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her home was a sanctuary of love, openness, and acceptance. Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, and her legacy is the light she ignited in the hearts of all who knew her.
In mourning her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the indelible mark she left on the world. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love for her family and friends. Her spirit will continue to illuminate the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her memory will be cherished for generations to come.
