In Loving Memory

MARY (MAURA) VATER
May 21, 1933 — September 25, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Mary (Maura) Vater, who departed this world peacefully at home on September 25, 2026, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on May 21, 1933, in Dublin, Ireland, Maura lived a life full of love, adventure, and cherished memories.
Maura was a beloved daughter of the late Christopher and Margaret (Butler) Seery. She was predeceased by her brother, Danny Seery, sisters Nina (Dean) Roeske, Ann Cormier, and Kathleen (Tommy) Carr, as well as her devoted husband, Ray, with whom she shared 55 extraordinary years of marriage. Their love story began in a quaint London coffee shop in 1957, leading to a whirlwind romance that culminated in an August wedding. Their bond remained unbreakable until Ray's passing in 2013, and he affectionately referred to her as "his beauty" throughout their life together.
Maura is lovingly remembered by her son, Danny (Elsa) Vater, and her daughter, Laura Taylor. She leaves behind a legacy through her cherished grandchildren: Randy (Olivia) Taylor, Ray Taylor, Nicholas (Stefani) Taylor, Logan (Rebecca) Taylor, Heather (Rob) Vater, Eric Vater, Christopher (Honoria) Vater, and Kelley (Dave) Palmer. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren, Skylar (Hailey) Vater, and great-great-grandchildren Ryleigh, Gavin, Daisy, and Isaac Taylor, along with Liam and Layla Vater. Her family also includes many treasured nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.
Maura's career was marked by dedication and hard work. She contributed her talents to Decro-Wall in Elmsford, NY, and later to National Semiconductor in Danbury. After the company's closure in 1990, she worked at Mobile Brake in Bethel, CT, until her well-deserved retirement in 1995.
Her faith was an integral part of her life. Maura was a long-time and devoted member of St. Gregory the Great in Danbury, CT, attending services faithfully until just two weeks before her passing. Beyond her spiritual life, Maura was an avid reader with a passion for opera music and live theater. She loved going to visit her sister in Rhode Island, and shopping downtown at the Newport Brick Market. She found joy in the simplicity of Hallmark movies and Mysteries and was known for her skillful Mahjong games. Her Irish Soda Bread was legendary among family and friends.
Maura was a beacon of grace and kindness, a matriarch whose love bound her family together. Her warm heart and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The Vater/Taylor family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Western CT Visiting Nurses staff for their compassionate care, and to Regional Hospice for their brief but invaluable support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to an organization of your choice in Maura's memory.
A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Maura's remarkable life. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her, and her legacy will be carried forward by the family she loved so dearly.
