Mary Margaret Patricia Clewell Legg
March 27, 1929 — August 3, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Margaret Patricia Clewell Legg on August 3, 2026, at the age of 97. Mary was born on March 27, 1929, in the charming town of Glen Falls, New York, to Patrick J Healy and Mary Murphy Healy. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering kindness.
Mary was a woman of remarkable warmth and generosity. Her life was centered around her family, to whom she was a pillar of strength and a wellspring of unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sidney Legg, and her cherished sons, Arnold R. Clewell III and David N. Clewell. Though her heart bore the weight of these losses, her spirit remained unbroken, continuing to brighten the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her devoted children: Mary Clewell Hobart (George Hobart), Sandra Clewell, Sharon Clewell Dearstyne(Marc Dearstyne), Patricia Schoof, Victoria Adler (Howard Adler), and Sydney Legg Jr. Her legacy of love continues through her grandchildren: Jennifer Fintz (Robert Fintz), Bruce Lawrence (Stephani Lawrence), Steven Lawrence (Melissa Lawrence), Debra Bass (Joe Bass), Katie Hobart, Nathan Hobart, Jeremy Libby, John Benson (Candace Benson), Kristin Benson, Dia Dearstyne Hoste (Benjamin Dearstyne Hoste), David Dearstyne, Kelsey Dearstyne Wilson (Brendon Dearstyne Wilson), Arnold Clewell IV, Rachel Adler, and Jacob Adler. Mary was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, and two great, great granchildren who were a source of immense joy and pride.
An avid reader and video game enthusiast, Mary was known for her sharp intellect and curious mind. Her hands were rarely still, often busy with needlework, crocheting, and knitting, crafting pieces that were as beautiful as they were comforting. Her creations were not simply made of yarn or thread, but of love, which she freely gave to those she held dear.
Mary's generous heart extended beyond her family, as she was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. Her compassion and kindness left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In honor of Mary’s memory, her family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, as a tribute to her generous spirit.
A graveside service will be held on October 17, 2026 at 10:30 am. The service will be held under Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury, New York 12804 Phone 518-793-4459
