Mary Louise Plunkett

Mary Louise Plunkett, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Born on May 14, 1935, in Delhi, Louisiana, Mary was the cherished daughter of Earnest and Pearlie Herrington. Her life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. Mary shared a remarkable 62-year marriage with her late husband, Charles Fred Plunkett, who predeceased her. Together, they built a loving family, raising their sons, Wayne, Ernie, Gary (Jeanette), Ricky (Cindy), and Keith (Penny). Mary was predeceased by her son Wayne, her grandson Peyton Plunkett, three sisters—Marie, Elaine, and Rita—and three brothers—Benny, a baby boy, and Eugene. Mary's legacy lives on through her surviving family, including her grandchildren Wayne Jr. (Nicole), Eric, Danny (Falon), Stephen (Lauri), Jimmy (Jennifer), Joey, Terra, Toni (Jeremy), Brandi (Jay), Bubba (Misti), CJ (Alicia), Heather (Derek), Courtney, Whittney, LeAnna (Allhana), and Lynsey. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Hailee, Fenton, Ethan, Rylan, Krystal, Christopher, Brandon, Amber, Terra, Tanner, Tyler, Tate, ABI, Taylor, Evan, Ray, Colton, Dixie, Jacob, Jocelyn, Jameson, and Ada Jane, as well as great-great-grandchildren Iris, Coleman, and Aden and a host of nieces and nephews. A woman of many talents and interests, Mary attended Delhi High School in Delhi, Louisiana. She found joy in her work as a taxidermist for Touchstone Taxidermy Service before retiring from Walmart. Her hobbies reflected her creativity and zest for life; she loved crafting, quilting, and sewing. Mary delighted in traveling and exploring flea markets, and she eagerly awaited spring to plant her beloved flowers. Above all, Mary’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord and cherished attending church services, a practice she continued until her health no longer permitted. Her sweet spirit and unconditional love for everyone she met left a lasting impression on all who knew her. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Old Brownlee Community Care Center and Bristol Hospice Care for their exceptional love and care during Mary's stay. Your kindness and dedication have touched our hearts deeply. A service to honor and celebrate Mary’s life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Pease Chapel Cemetery, located on Cemetery Rd, Red Chute, Louisiana. Officiating will be Pastor Adam Miller of Plain Dealing Church of Christ, Plain Dealing, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary’s memory to a charity of your choice. Mary Louise Plunkett will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by her extensive family and friends. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
