Mary-Kay Cantwell
August 14, 1956 — April 2, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Mary-Kay Cantwell, who left this world peacefully on April 2, 2026, at the age of 69. Mary-Kay was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on August 14, 1956, in the vibrant Brighton neighborhood of Boston, MA, to William J. Cantwell and Patricia A. (Cahill) Cantwell, who predeceased her and now welcome her with open arms.
Mary-Kay's life was a testament to service, compassion, and an enduring love for knowledge. She pursued her passion for helping others by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from UMASS-Boston, coupled with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Worcester State College, which is now known as Worcester State University. These accomplishments laid the groundwork for her remarkable career, where she dedicated 28 years to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. Mary-Kay specialized in cardiac nursing, where her gentle hands and caring heart brought comfort and healing to countless patients.
Her commitment extended beyond her professional life. Mary-Kay was a devoted aunt who treasured her role in the lives of her nieces and nephews, treating Meghan, Matthew, Morgan Cantwell, and Sina as her own children. Her nurturing spirit and boundless generosity were a cornerstone of her family, offering unending love and support to her three surviving brothers: William S. Cantwell and his wife Carol of Shrewsbury, Kevin M. Cantwell and his wife Gail of Worcester, and Paul J. Cantwell and his wife Petra residing in Germany.
A woman of many interests, Mary-Kay found joy in traveling the world, exploring new cultures, and savoring the tranquility of the beaches at Dennis, MA. She had an artist’s eye for detail, often frequenting craft fairs where her creativity thrived. Her life was enriched by these experiences, and she shared her love for them with her extensive circle of friends, who were like family to her.
Mary-Kay’s legacy is one of love, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. She leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, hearty laughter, and compassionate nature will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary-Kay’s life will be held at a date to be announced, where family and friends can gather to honor the indelible mark she left on their hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting Mary-Kay’s lifelong dedication to caring for others.
May Mary-Kay Cantwell rest in eternal peace, her memory forever a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
