Mary Katherine Ritter-Newnam, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Parker, Colorado on April 4, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on December 6, 1939, in the charming town of Cumberland, Maryland, Mary was a guiding light to all who knew her, known for her unwavering kindness and gentle spirit. Mary was the daughter of Katherine Alderton and William Newnam. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis, her parents, her sister Carol Ann, and her brother Richard, Mary is survived by her dear sister JoAnn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who admired her greatly. Her family, along with many friends whose lives she touched profoundly, will miss her dearly. A dedicated professional, Mary spent her entire career working for the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. Mary had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Mary was also a devout member of her church community. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on June 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, located in her birthplace of Cumberland, Maryland. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Mary’s remarkable life, to share stories and cherish the enduring legacy of love and kindness she leaves behind. Mary K. Ritter’s life was a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and dedication. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
