In loving memory of Mary Jo Hoffman, who left us peacefully at her home on May 28, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on January 31, 1933, in Tacoma, Washington, Mary Jo was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Her life was a testament to love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family and faith. Mary Jo was the cherished daughter of the late Abel and Gladys Rigney and the beloved sister to her predeceased brother, James Rigney. She was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1928 and went on to earn her Nursing Degree at Seattle University in 1932. Her career began as a dedicated nurse working alongside Dr. Polley, and later, she found her calling at an allergy clinic with Dr. Baker. Revered for her expertise and admired for her infectious humor, Mary Jo brought joy and care to her coworkers and patients alike. On December 30, 1956, Mary Jo married the love of her life, George Hoffman. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising four children: Mary Lou Walther (Bill), Dave Hoffman (Heather), Lori Armitage (John), and Don Hoffman (Kim). Her family continued to grow, and she was blessed with ten grandchildren: Eric Walther (Callie), Mark Walther, Robin Elliott (Corey), Casey Hoffman, Jamie Makupson (Marqui), Tony Armitage, Nick Armitage, Lisa Rodehaver (David), Trevor Hoffman (Mariah), and Alyssa Hoffman. Her legacy of love lives on in her four great-grandchildren: Hallie Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Lucy Walther, Qui J Makupson, with two more eagerly anticipated. Mary Jo was a devout Catholic, deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother and a cherished member of St. Bernadette Parish for over 60 years. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she shared that light with everyone she met. A woman of many talents, Mary Jo was the life of every gathering, known for her meticulous planning and insistence on perfection. She loved performing arts and was a spirited member of senior drama groups, including the "Drama Dollies" and the "Not Quite Right Players." Her melodious voice graced choirs such as Choral Sounds Northwest and Silver Sounds, and she often entertained family and friends with her piano playing. Mary Jo had an unparalleled ability to make people laugh, often sharing jokes and delivering zingers, even to the priests and nuns at her church. Her warmth and humor were her signature traits, endearing her to all who knew her. A celebration of Mary Jo’s life will be held on July 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Bernadette Church, located at 1028 SW 128th St., Seattle, WA. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the support and love received during this time. In the spirit of Mary Jo remember Life is short, it is sacred, and to live it as she did with passion, love, and much laughter. As we gather to honor her memory, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives and carry forward her legacy of love. Rest in peace, dear Mary Jo, your spirit will forever be with us.
