Mary Jim Quirk

February 9, 1940 — April 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary Jim Quirk, who peacefully left this world on April 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on February 9, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, Mary was a beacon of warmth, love, and resilience, touching countless lives with her kindness and compassion. Mary was the beloved daughter of James and Virgie Hoffa, who instilled in her the values of hard work and empathy. She grew up alongside her sisters, Virgie and Lenore, who predeceased her. Though they have gone before her, Mary's love for her family remained a guiding light throughout her life. In 1962, Mary united in marriage with the love of her life, Thomas Quirk. Their marriage, which spanned 44 beautiful years until Thomas's passing in 2007, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised four remarkable children: Scott, Bryan, and Michael, who survives her with his wife, Sara, and daughter Christine, who survives her with her husband, David. Mary was a devoted and proud grandmother to five cherished grandchildren: Jackson, Madison, Harrison, William, and Dillon, each of whom brought immense joy to her heart. Mary's journey in education began at Towson State College, where she earned her degree in education. Her career commenced with a thrilling stint as a stewardess for American Airlines in the early 1960s, where she embraced the spirit of adventure. However, her true calling was found in the classrooms of Baltimore County, where she dedicated herself to nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher. Her impact as an educator was profound and lasting, fostering a love of learning in her students. A woman of deep faith, Mary was an active member of her church family and community throughout her life. Her commitment to serving others was showcased through her role as a volunteer grief share group leader in Evansville, Indiana, following her husband's passing. In this capacity, she offered comfort and understanding to those dealing with loss, embodying the compassion that defined her character. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, her parents, James and Virgie, and her dear sisters, Virgie and Lenore. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness lives on in the hearts of her surviving family members and all who were fortunate to know her. As we mourn Mary's passing, we also celebrate the incredible life she led—a life marked by love, service, and unwavering faith. Her warmth and generosity will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever guide those she leaves behind. A memorial service to honor Mary Jim Quirk's remarkable life will be held at her cherished church, where family and friends will gather to remember the joy and love she shared with the world. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting Mary's lifelong commitment to helping others. Rest in peace, dear Mary. Your life was a blessing, and your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
