Mary Jim Quirk
February 9, 1940 — April 19, 2026
Baltimore, MD – Mary Jim Quirk, a beloved matriarch, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully from natural causes on April 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on February 9, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Virginia and James Hoffa, Mary was a beacon of love, strength, and wisdom to all who knew her.
Mary grew up surrounded by the vibrant communities of Baltimore. Her inquisitive spirit and passion for learning led her to pursue a bachelor's degree in education from Towson State University. With a heart for nurturing young minds, she embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher in the Baltimore County schools. Her dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on countless students, fostering a love for learning that many carried throughout their lives.
On June 30, 1962, Mary married the love of her life, Thomas J. Quirk, in a beautiful ceremony in her hometown. Together, they built a warm and loving home, raising four children who would become the center of their world. Though Thomas predeceased her, the legacy of their enduring love remains a testament to their unwavering dedication to each other and their family.
Mary was a devoted mother to her four children: Scott Quirk, Bryan Quirk, Mike Quirk, and Christine Knefley. Her nurturing spirit extended to her daughters-in-law, Sara Quirk, and son-in-law, Dave Knefley, whom she embraced as her own. Her five grandchildren—Jackson, Madison, and Harrison Knefley, and William and Dillon Quirk—were the joys of her life. She adored them deeply, and they, in turn, cherished their grandmother, who was always ready with a warm hug and wise advice.
Preceded in death by her husband Thomas, and her dear sisters Virginia and Lynn, Mary is now reunited with them, leaving behind a legacy of love that continues to inspire her family. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and resilience. She had an innate ability to make everyone she met feel valued and loved, embodying the virtues of patience and understanding.
Mary's home was always open to family and friends, a gathering place filled with laughter, delicious meals, and heartfelt conversations. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to thrive through her children and grandchildren, who carry forth her values and spirit.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held at a date to be announced, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable woman she was and the beautiful life she led. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one's choice in Mary’s memory, to continue her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Mary Jim Quirk's spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a shining example of love, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
