It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Jean Torre, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, on April 19, 2026. Born on August 31, 1947, in the small, close-knit community of Ute, Iowa, Mary lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those around her. She departed this world after a courageous battle with a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and resilience.
Mary's journey through life was marked by her remarkable career as a registered nurse, where she dedicated many years of service to the Jewish Home for the Aged. Her commitment to caring for others extended beyond her professional life, as she also pursued a bachelor's degree in social work, further demonstrating her profound desire to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
In every aspect of her life, Mary was known for her loving heart and caring smile. Her generosity touched countless lives, and her quick wit and humor were ever-present, lightening the mood in any situation. Mary had a unique ability to make friends wherever she went, her free spirit leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mary was a woman of strong religious faith, practicing her Lutheran beliefs with sincerity and devotion. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, providing her with strength and peace in challenging times.
Mary's memory will be cherished by her loving children, Lisa Torre, with Richard and Jeffrey Torre, married to Leann, who each carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Her treasured grandchildren, Scott Brossman Jr. and his girlfriend Martha, and Emma Torre, were the light of her life, bringing her immense joy and pride.
As we say goodbye to Mary, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and unwavering faith. Mary Jean Torre will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to remember and honor her remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to wheatpantry.org in Mary's memory to a charity close to her heart, in support of the values she held dear throughout her life.
The family also would like to extend their tremendous gratitude to the healthcare providers at US Renal Care Orange, CT Hospice Branford and to the numerous Doctors, medical staff, extended family, friends, neighbors, clients and coworkers who have supported all of us during this most difficult time. All of your service, devotion, love, generosity and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
May Mary rest in eternal peace, enveloped in the love and grace she so freely shared with the world.
