Mary Jean Elliott, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on October 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on May 17, 1949, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Mary Jean was the daughter of Lloyd Hall and Delia Mae Hayes (Richard Hayes), whom predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her precious son, Isaiah Hayes. Mary Jean was a woman of remarkable character who lived a life full of joy and warmth. She graduated from Crestwood High School, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with enduring friendships and community spirit. Known for being unapologetically herself, Mary Jean's genuine nature endeared her to everyone she met. Her love for singing was matched only by her passion for gathering with family and friends, where her laughter and joy were a beacon for all who knew her. Her family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a constellation of loved ones who will carry her spirit forward. Mary Jean is survived by her children: Calvin Hayes, Barbara Keeling, and Jermiah Elliott (Amy Elliott). She was the proud grandmother to a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom was touched by her kindness and wisdom. In her free time, Mary Jean found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Whether she was playing cards, enjoying a game of dominos, or getting lost in a word search, she approached every activity with enthusiasm and grace. Her love for music and singing was infectious, often bringing her family together in joyous harmony. A celebration of Mary Jean's life will be held on October 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Metropoliian. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, where stories and memories will be shared in her honor. Mary Jean Elliott's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her. Her memory will be a guiding light, reminding us all to live with authenticity, love deeply, and cherish every moment spent with family and friends.
