Mary Jane Sudekum
November 23, 1953 — April 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Sudekum, who departed this world peacefully on April 3, 2026, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, Michigan, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Mary was surrounded by love and the compassionate care of the hospice staff, for whom her family is eternally grateful.
Mary was born on November 23, 1953, in Highland Park, Michigan, to John and Mary Wilson. She was a beacon of light and strength, qualities instilled in her by her loving parents, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Michael.
Mary shared 51 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Charles Sudekum, a partnership built on unwavering love and mutual respect. Together, they nurtured a family that became the center of Mary’s world. She is survived by her beloved children, David (Heather), Stephen (Erika), and Jonathan (Emily), who were her pride and joy. The legacy of Mary’s love continues through her seven cherished grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and laughter into her life.
A proud alumna of St. Alphonsus High School in Dearborn, Class of 1971, Mary pursued her passion for pharmacy at Wayne State University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in 1976 and later her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 1986. Her professional life, though yet to be detailed, was undoubtedly marked by dedication and excellence.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary found joy in simple pleasures. She had a profound love for gardening, particularly growing hostas, a hobby that was humorously challenged by her local deer population. Her artistic flair was evident in her talent for refinishing and stenciling furniture, transforming ordinary pieces into works of art. Mary also cherished the great outdoors, spending many memorable moments camping across Michigan with her family, fostering a deep appreciation for nature in her children.
Mary's personal qualities were as vibrant as the life she led. She was known for her kindness, resilience, and boundless capacity for love. Her warm, welcoming spirit touched all who knew her, leaving a lasting impact on both family and friends.
In accordance with her wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Mary’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation and Angela Hospice, organizations that were dear to Mary’s heart.
The Sudekum family extends their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of Angela Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Mary’s final days.
Mary’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and perseverance. Though she will be profoundly missed, her spirit lives on in the memories and hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
