In Loving Memory

Mary Grimes
February 8, 1945 — July 30, 2026
Mary Grimes, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved community member, passed peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 8, 1945, in McNary, Arizona, Mary was the daughter of the late Johnny and Georgia Sullivan. From humble beginnings, she grew into a woman whose life was marked by kindness, love, and service to others.
Mary's early education was completed at McNary High, where she graduated in 1962. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue a career in nursing, earning her RN license in California. She dedicated many years of her life to the service of veterans, working at the VA Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, from which she retired. Her patients and colleagues remembered her as a compassionate nurse whose comforting presence brought solace and healing.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Mary was a dedicated member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church for over three decades. Her contributions as an usher and church nurse touched the lives of many congregants, who will fondly remember her welcoming smile and gentle spirit.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Johnny and Georgia Sullivan, her beloved sister Johnnie Sullivan, and the love of her life, Arthur Taylor. Their reunion in heaven brings comfort to those she leaves behind.
Her legacy lives on through her four children: Georgia Nash, Edward and Cora Grimes, Queen Hendrix, and Arthur and Diana Taylor. She was the proud grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished dearly. Her family, along with a host of extended family and friends, will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on August 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, located at 5202 S 7th Ave. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the remarkable life she led.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting her lifelong dedication to helping others.
Mary Grimes's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and will be remembered with love and gratitude.
