It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary Geraldine Jordan, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2026. Born on March 28, 1938, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Mary was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Harry and Marie Gilbert. She grew up in a lively household, surrounded by her beloved siblings, Robert, John, and Virginia. Together, they shared the laughter and warmth of a closely-knit family—a foundation that would guide Mary throughout her life. On April 1, 1955, Mary united in marriage with Albert Jordan, embarking on a remarkable journey of love and companionship that spanned 71 wonderful years. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their unwavering devotion and mutual respect. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Mary's life. Mary was the proud and loving matriarch of a large and adoring family. Her legacy lives on through her surviving husband, Albert, and her sons, Daniel and Bruce. She was a beloved mother-in-law to Sharon (Schmidt) and Mary (Narduli), who became integral parts of her family tapestry. Her grandchildren—Cherish, Robin, Dan, Michelle (Keilman), Lindsay (Cartwright), Kyle Cartwright, Lauren, Chelsea, Joy (Cusker Briggs), Kristin (Zambreno), and Jennifer Anne—were the apples of her eye. Mary's love extended to her great-grandchildren, Jack, Sophia Cartwright, Sadie Cartwright, David Jordan Carpenter, Cameron Zambreno, and Layla Zambreno, who brought her immense joy and pride. Mary was predeceased by her beloved son, Richard Jordan, whose memory she cherished deeply. A woman of many talents, Mary dedicated her career to nurturing young minds as an Early Education teacher. Her passion for teaching and her innate ability to connect with children left an indelible mark on countless lives. In addition to her professional endeavors, Mary shared her love of crocheting with others, teaching the craft with patience and enthusiasm. Mary's spirit was one of creativity and joy. She delighted in the art of crochet, belly dancing, and indulging in the world of books and arts and crafts. Her quick wit and good sense of humor made her a joy to be around, and her warm, welcoming nature ensured that everyone felt comfortable in her presence. In the words of her family, Mary was the heart of their gatherings—a source of wisdom, laughter, and love. Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family. While our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find solace in the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. A Celebration of Life will be held in Mary's honor in the coming weeks, as her family and friends gather to share stories and remember the remarkable woman she was. An update with details will be provided early next week. Mary Geraldine Jordan will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her. Rest in peace, dear Mary, in the embrace of eternal love and light.
