Mary Farmer Gunn

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Farmer Gunn, who made her heavenly transition on September 10, 2026, at her cherished home in Boyd, Alabama. Born on February 28, 1940, in Livingston, Alabama, Mary was a beacon of love, dedication, and warmth throughout her 86 years of life. Mary was the beloved daughter of the late Cleveland and Deva (Maye) Farmer. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Willie Gunn, with whom she shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and love, raising five remarkable children. Mary is survived by her loving children: Terry (Jacqueline), Clifford (Jacqueline), Jacqueline (Rex), Marilyn, and April, who was married to the late Ben Jones III. Her legacy continues through her six cherished grandchildren: Jamie (Courtney), Tryphena (Casey), Jenissa (Keefer), Ayanna, Ben, and Adrianna; and five precious great-grandchildren: Sophia, MacKenna, Amari, Kingston, and Mickey. She is also survived by her dear sister, Ann Sattlewhite, who shared many memories and moments of joy with Mary. A dedicated and compassionate soul, Mary served her community as an E911 Dispatcher at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years. Her commitment to service extended to her role as a Food Service Coordinator with the Sumter County School District, where she made a positive impact on countless lives. Mary’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As an active member of the New Prospect Baptist Church, she served faithfully and was deeply involved in the Eastern Star and as a devoted volunteer for the Girl Scouts. Her passion for life was evident in her love for fishing and her joy in traveling to spend precious time with her family. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church in Livingston, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor her memory and the love she shared with all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Mary’s honor. They would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Comfort Care for their compassionate support during Mary’s final days. Mary Farmer Gunn will be remembered for her unwavering love, her boundless generosity, and her enduring spirit. As her family fondly states, she will be "Forever in our hearts."
