Mary Elizabeth Dowd, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on September 5, 2026. She was born on January 1, 1931, in California to William J. Dowd and Rachel R. Dana. Mary was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Richard Green; her cherished grandson, Richard Green; and her dear parents, with whom she now joyously reunites. Her children, Tim,Patricia,Peggy and David will greatly miss her presence and love. Mary's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to her family. A devout Christian, she fulfilled her lifelong hope to enter heaven peacefully. Mary spent her formative years attending Catholic school and later pursued higher education at City College in San Francisco, which laid a foundation for her compassionate and service-oriented life. Her career as the secretary to the Chief of Police at the Walnut Creek Police Department was marked by her professionalism and her ability to forge friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her colleagues and friends remember her fondly for her warmth and unwavering support. Mary's legacy lives on in the lives of her 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. She was a dedicated matriarch, who prayed daily for her family and celebrated each of their birthdays with personalized cards sent through the mail, a testament to her remarkable memory and thoughtfulness. Her commitment to her faith was profound; Mary attended Mass weekly and was an active volunteer, offering her time to care for newborn babies until they were placed with adoptive families. Her pro-life stance was a reflection of her deep-seated belief in the sanctity of life and her generous spirit. Mary was known for her gentle nature, kindness, and generosity. Her love for cats was well-known among her grandchildren, who knew that a visit from Grandma meant their furry friends would receive extra affection. Her home was a haven of warmth, where love and laughter were shared freely. A service celebrating Mary's life will be held on Friday October9, 2026, at 10:00 PM at St. Agnes Church, followed by a burial at Queen of Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice, honoring Mary's legacy of giving and compassion. Mary Elizabeth Dowd's life was a beacon of love, faith, and selflessness. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure through the generations.
