Mary Elizabeth Bohanon

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we commemorate the life of Mary Elizabeth Bohanon, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on August 19, 2026. Born on March 18, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee, Mary was the cherished daughter of Jessie and Bertha Mae Campbell and the eldest of six children. Her life's journey was marked by faith, family, love, and a spirit of resilience. Mary's early years in Memphis were filled with the nurturing love of her family. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age and became an active member of the First Baptist Church on Broad Avenue. Her dedication to the music ministry was a testament to her deep faith and love for her community, a commitment she maintained until her health no longer allowed. A proud alumna of Carver High School, Mary furthered her education at Christian Brothers College. Her career took her to Buffalo, New York, where she met and married her first husband, Edward Johnson. Together, they were blessed with three wonderful children: Sharon, Edward Jr., and Reginald. Mary's devotion to her family was unwavering, and she poured her love and energy into raising her children. Mary eventually returned to Memphis, where she found love again with Aaron Bohanon. Their marriage spanned thirty-nine years, marked by shared dreams and mutual support, until Aaron's passing. A dedicated professional, Mary enjoyed a successful career with FedEx Corporation as an Accountant Specialist. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to a second career in real estate with Keller Williams Realty. She later purchased several properties, contributing to the growth of her beloved Memphis. Mary's legacy lives on through her children: Sharon Teresa (Glenn) Gray of Lakeland, Florida; Edward Johnson Jr. of Arlington, Tennessee; and Reginald Johnson of Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Pamela (Ray) Scrivens of Buffalo, New York; her brother, Asie Jerome Campbell of Memphis; and her grandson, Glenn Gray Jr. of Lakeland, Florida. Though she was preceded in death by her siblings James Nelson, Larchena Jordan, Alphonso Askew, and Thomas Rodgers, her spirit remains alive in the hearts of her extended family, friends, and community. Mary cherished the companionship of her close neighbors, Melvin Hawkins and Vickie Allen, and her dear friend, Jackie Hampton. Her memory is a cherished blessing to her extended family in Buffalo, New York, and all who knew her. The family of Mary Elizabeth Campbell, Johnson, Bohanon extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. Your prayers, calls, cards, and acts of kindness have been a source of strength and comfort.
