It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary E. Davis, age 91, departed this world peacefully at her home in Lakeland, Florida surrounded by love, on July 21, 2026. Born on November 1, 1934, in the quaint town of Bedford, Indiana, Mary embraced life with an open heart and a warm spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Mary was the treasured daughter of Sherman and Naomi Belcher, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and generosity. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her brothers, Elmer and Don Belcher; her sister, Dorothy Marshall; her dear son, Tony Cottengain; and cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Cottengain and Greg Cavender. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her children, Tana Cavender (Gary), Monty Cottengain, and Randy Cottengain (Deb). She also held a special place in her heart for her previous daugter-in-law Bonnie Smith. Her spirit and love continue to shine through her grandchildren, Amber Cavender, Shannon Mullis, Russell Cottengain, Randy Cottengain, April Mihm, and Roger Bowersok, as well as her numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild eagerly awaited. Mary was blessed with two loving marriages. She married her first love, Russell Cottengain, on June 22, 1951. Together they created a beautiful family and shared 31 years of marriage until his passing in 1987. She later found love again with Harley Davis, with whom she shared a devoted partnership until his passing in 1998. Mary's career spanned over 15 years with Publix Supermarkets, where she was not only a dedicated employee but also a cherished friend and confidante to many. Her work ethic and compassion left a lasting impression, and her retirement in the late 1990s marked the end of a remarkable tenure. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to Good Shepherd/Corner Stone Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Mary in her final days. The kindness and support they offered brought great comfort to Mary and her loved ones. In her memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to her heart. Mary was deeply loved and will be missed dearly by her family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege to know her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will forever be remembered and cherished.
