Mary Catherine Baker

September 14, 1954 — March 9, 2026

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Baker, who left this world on March 9, 2026. Mary, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully, enveloped in the love of her family, at the age of 71. Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, on September 14, 1954, to Ed and Mitzi Loughran, Mary was a beacon of kindness and joy from the very beginning. She grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and siblings, Janie, Donna, Suzie, Terry, and Cindy, and carried the values of family and faith with her throughout her life. Mary's journey in education began at Hempfield High School, where she graduated in 1968, and continued at Greensburg Community College, where she pursued her passion for helping others by earning a degree in nursing. Her career as a registered nurse spanned three decades, during which she touched countless lives with her compassionate care and gentle spirit. In 1978, Mary married the love of her life, James Baker, on a beautiful spring day, May 1st. Together, they constructed a tapestry of love, laughter, and joy over their 42-year marriage. Their home was filled with warmth and happiness, as they raised their two beloved children, Patrick and Kelly. Mary's role as a mother was one she cherished deeply, and she embraced every moment of it with an open heart. A devout Catholic, Mary found strength and solace in her faith, which guided her throughout her life. She was a devoted member of her church community and found immense joy in attending services and participating in church activities. Mary's greatest joy in life was her family. She adored spending time with her children and was especially delighted by her grandchildren, Elinore and Jameson. Known for her big smile and warm hugs, Mary had an extraordinary ability to make everyone around her feel loved and valued. Her laughter was infectious, and her presence brought warmth to every room. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Ed and Mitzi Loughran, and her siblings, Edward Jr., Diane, and Michael. She leaves behind her devoted husband, James; her children, Patrick, Kelly, and Melanie; her grandchildren, Elinore and Jameson; and her siblings, Janie, Donna, Suzie, Terry, and Cindy, who will all carry her memory in their hearts. A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on March 18, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Our Mother of Perpetual Hope. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life richly lived and to honor the legacy Mary leaves behind—a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering faith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary's memory to a charity of your choice, spreading her spirit of generosity and kindness to those in need. Mary Catherine Baker will be dearly missed, yet her light will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
