Mary C. Schneider
September 24, 1941 — July 24, 2026
Mary C. Schneider, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Franciscan Hospital in Indianapolis, following a brief illness. Born on September 24, 1941, in Rushville, Indiana, Mary was the cherished daughter of Leo and Rose Hoeing. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication to family, leaving a legacy of kindness and devotion that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Mary shared a beautiful and enduring marriage with her late husband, Ronald Schneider, whom she wed on October 5, 1963. Together, they nurtured a family founded on love and Christian values. Her unwavering commitment to her family was evident in everything she did, from the tender care she provided to her children—Michael Schneider, Kate (Bud) DeCleene, and Karen Schneider—to the joyful gatherings she organized, drawing together her family for shared meals and fellowship.
A lifelong resident of Rush County, Mary was deeply rooted in her community and a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Her faith was her guiding light, and she was known to all as a prayer warrior who placed great trust in the will of God. This profound faith allowed her to live a joy-filled life, even in times of trial, and she touched many lives with her unwavering hope and compassion.
Mary is survived by her loving children and her treasured sisters, Edna Thompson and Eileen Settles. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sister Magdalena DeCleene, Chris (Olivia) DeCleene, Seth (Allison) DeCleene, and Maria DeCleene, as well as her great-grandchildren, Agnes, Clement, and Martha DeCleene. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; her parents, Leo and Rose; her siblings, Martha Lecher, Wilbur Hoeing, Ann Reuter Cox, Loretta Busald, Dorothy Wagner, and Theresa Hoeing; and her daughter-in-law, Susan Schneider.
Mary found immense joy in flower gardening, where the beauty and tranquility of nature mirrored the serenity of her spirit. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing nature, much like the loving environment she cultivated within her own home.
A funeral mass to celebrate Mary's life will be held on July 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, located at 512 N. Perkins Street, Rushville, IN 46173. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman whose life was a blessing to those around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Mary's compassionate spirit and lifelong commitment to serving others. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire acts of love and kindness.
