It is with profound sadness that the family of Mary Butler Scott announce her peaceful passing and her eternal reward on the morning of September 23,2026, at the age of 93. Born on July 4, 1933 in Clayton Alabama, Mary was a beacon of love, faith, and generosity whose light touched all who knew her.
Education was a vital part of Marys journey. She began her schooling in Clayton Alabama, and completed high school at Hale County Training School in Greensboro Alabama. Her commitment to learning continued when she graduated with an Associate of Arts & Office Administrative Degree from Community College in Cleveland, Ohio in 1980.
Mary's career as a licensed State Tested Nursing Assistant spanned 15 years, during which she provided compassionate care at Holy Name School, Heritage Care Nursing Facility, Montefiore Nursing Home, and Oak Park Health & Rehabilitation Center. Her kind heart extended beyond her professional duties, as she often used her own resources to provide for the needs of those less fortunate.
Mother ("Oh Mary Don't You Weep') Scott was a devout and active member of Starlight Missionary Baptist Church for 51 years, under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Edward Small and from 2012 until she gained her wings under Pastor Anthony Small. Her service in the Esther Circle as well as being a pillar on the intercessory prayer line exemplified her dedication to her faith. Her well-worn prayer journal stands as a testament to her unwavering commitment to lifting up family, friends, and even strangers to the Lord. Her life was one of boundless generosity and gentle encouragement, reflecting God's grace in every action.
Mary was a living history book, a testament to faith and wisdom across generations. Her steadfastness in the face of life's storms was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her. Mother Scott loved her family, her church, her Pastor, and above all, her Lord. She was Always doing the best she could with the help of the Good Lord. Mom had a passion for solving puzzles, gardening, and telling jokes that just wasn't funny, but we'd laugh anyhow. To know Mother Scott was to love her. Her nurturing presence always provided a safe haven of unconditional love and support for her family and friends.
Mary Butler Scott was the cherished daughter of the late Hubert Baxter and Ethel Lee Cook. She was preceded in death by her daughter Daisy Butler, sister Estelle Cook, Willie Butler, Issac Scott, cousins, nieces and nephews. Her enduring spirit is carried forward by her seven loving children: Mary Miller( Las Vegas NV), Jane Brown( Cleveland Hts OH), BJ Starkey ( Virginia Beach), Julia Butler( Cleveland Hts OH), Omri Yigal ( Robert Butler), John Butler ( Cleveland OH), and Dorsey Butler (Ravenna OH), sister Frances Cook (Akron OH), Brother Elisha Cook ( Cleveland OH) and Brother William E. Cook (Greensboro Alabama). Her legacy of love extends to her 20 Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren and a host of Great Great Grandchildren who was her pride and joy and will forever cherish her memory.
Mary’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and legacy of love will continue to guide her family and community for generations to come. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
" But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."

I Made It Home
I Made it Home
I just wanted to let you know that I made it home .
The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long.
Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new.
I wish that you could close your eyes so that you could see it too,
Please try not to be sad for me.
Try to understand God is taking care of me......
I'm in the shelter of His hands.
Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain.
Here there is no crying
and I'll never hurt again.
Here it is so peaceful
when all the angels sing.
I really have to go for now...
I've just got to try my wings.
PS.... I'll be the first face YOU
See when you get here!
Special Thanks
