In Loving Memory

Mary Brunson Hilton
October 16, 1952 — March 26, 2026
It is with profound sadness and loving memories that we announce the passing of Mary Brunson Hilton, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on March 26, 2026, at McLeod Health Clarendon in her beloved hometown of Manning, South Carolina. Mary was born on October 16, 1952, to the late Sula Bernice Brunson and Mathew Donald Brunson Sr., both of Baltimore, Maryland. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and the power of community.
Mary spent her early years in Manning, where she attended public schools and graduated from Manning High School in 1969. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for excellence led her to the University of South Carolina, where she obtained a degree in accounting in 1980. She dedicated 17 years of her life to the Bank of Clarendon, where she was known for her meticulous work and warm interactions with colleagues and clients until her retirement in 1992 due to health reasons.
On May 10, 1976, Mary united in marriage with Ralph C. Hilton in a beautiful ceremony in Summerton, South Carolina. Together, they shared 25 blissful years of companionship and love until Ralph's passing. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Catherine Ann Stuckey, who resides in Savannah, Georgia, and two adored grandchildren, Maryum and Sylas Boyd, who were the lights of her life.
Mary's life was enriched by her involvement in her cherished Providence Baptist Church, where she was a lifetime member. Her faith was her guiding light, and she found immense joy in attending church choir rehearsals, where her voice blended harmoniously with those of her fellow choir members.
Cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends were among Mary's greatest pleasures. Her home was always open, a sanctuary of warmth and laughter for those fortunate enough to know her. Mary had an unparalleled ability to lift spirits with her encouraging words and the innate gift of making people smile, even on their darkest days. Her genuine care for others touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on her community.
Mary is predeceased by her husband, Ralph C. Hilton, her sister, Carolyn "Babysister" Bryant, and two brothers, Wilbert "Sunny" Brunson and John L. Brunson. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Ann Stuckey, and grandchildren, Maryum and Sylas Boyd. She also leaves behind two sisters, Ms. Ella Mae Brunson and Martha Mae Johnson of Sumter, a brother, Frank D. Brunson of Baltimore, and a special nephew/godson, James L. Bryant Jr. of Dalzell. A host of cousins, in-laws, and a cherished friend, Ms. Iris Whitherspoon of Wedgefield, also mourn her passing.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mary Brunson Hilton will be held on April 3, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Providence Baptist Church, 2445 Old Manning Rd. The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. For those who have traveled to share in these services, and for each act of kindness shown, the family offers their deepest thanks. May God richly bless each of you for your compassion and support.
Mary's legacy of love, kindness, and community will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her. She leaves behind a world that is undoubtedly brighter because of her presence.
