In Loving Memory

Mary Brunson Hilton
October 16, 1952 — March 26, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound respect, we celebrate the life of Mary Brunson Hilton, who departed this world on March 26, 2026, at McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning, SC. Born on October 16, 1952, in Manning, she was the cherished daughter of the late Sula Bernice Brunson and Mathew Donald Brunson Sr. of Baltimore, MD.
Mary's life was a testament to resilience, love, and the power of community. A graduate of Manning High School in 1969, she pursued higher education with determination, earning her degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina in 1980. Her career at the Bank of Clarendon spanned 17 years, during which she became a beloved colleague and friend, known for her meticulous work and her compassionate nature. Though she retired in 1992 due to health concerns, her impact on her colleagues and the community endured.
In 1976, Mary married the love of her life, Ralph C. Hilton, in Summerton, SC. Their union was a beautiful testament to partnership and devotion, lasting 25 years until Ralph's passing. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared experiences, welcoming their daughter, Catherine Ann Stuckey, into the world. Catherine, along with her children, Maryum and Sylas Boyd, were the light of Mary's life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Mary's life was one of service to others, both through her professional endeavors and her personal commitments. A devout member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter and later Fellowship Baptist Church in Manning, she found joy in worship and community, often attending choir rehearsals and participating in church activities. Her faith was her guiding light, and her warmth and kindness were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her daughter and grandchildren, Mary leaves behind a legacy of love with her surviving family: her sisters, Ella Mae Brunson and Martha Mae Johnson of Sumter; her brother, Frank D. Brunson of Baltimore; her special nephew and godson, James L. Bryant Jr. of Dalzell, SC; and her dear friend, Ms. Iris Whitherspoon of Wedgefield. She is also survived by a host of cousins, in-laws, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph, her sister Carolyn (Babysister) Bryant, and her brothers Wilbert (Sunny) Brunson and John L. Brunson. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with them in eternal peace.
A woman of many talents and interests, Mary delighted in cooking, traveling, and creating joyful connections with those around her. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to uplift others with her words and spirit was unparalleled. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, even on their most challenging days.
The family of Mary Brunson Hilton extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a source of comfort and strength, and they pray that God richly blesses each of you for your thoughtfulness.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held on April 3, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, 705 W. Huggins St., Manning, SC. We invite all who knew and loved Mary to join us in honoring her remarkable life, a life lived with grace, love, and unwavering faith.
