It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Brooks, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary left this world peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on May 7, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, a place she always called home.
Mary was the beloved daughter of the late James and Anna Brooks, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and integrity that she carried throughout her life. She was also predeceased by her dear brother, Stanley Brooks, whose memory she cherished deeply.
Mary's life was a testament to love and devotion. She was a nurturing and supportive mother to her children, Jason Brooks and Lisa Brooks, and a loving sister to Larry Hipps. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and well-being. She was the adored aunt to her nieces, Nicole Green, Kara Green, Fave Hipps, and Angie Hipps, and her nephews, Stan Brooks, Rashad Kelly, and Marcus Hipps, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Mary’s legacy lives on through her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom she treasured beyond measure. Her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
A woman of unwavering faith, Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she found solace and community. Her compassion and generosity were reflected in her dedication to her church and her community.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Mary’s remarkable life on June 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Columbia, located at 1306 Hampton St, Columbia, SC. It will be a time to honor her memory, share cherished stories, and find comfort in one another.
Mary Brooks touched the lives of many with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. As we say goodbye, we hold her in our hearts and find solace in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
