Mary Boruta

December 27, 1961 — February 24, 2026

It is with profound sadness but also deep gratitude for her remarkable life that we announce the passing of Mary Boruta, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Mary passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, in the comforting presence of her cherished family. She was 64 years old. Mary was born on December 27, 1961, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, to her loving parents, Donald and Mary. Mary’s early years were steeped in the warmth of a close-knit family, alongside her siblings, Judy, John, Paul, and her late brother, Donald. Her upbringing in Chicago instilled in her a lifelong love for the city’s rich culture and community spirit. On August 15, 1987, Mary married the love of her life, Michael Boruta, in her hometown of Chicago. Together, they shared over 38 years of marriage, marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering bond. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their commitment to one another and their family. Together, they raised three sons—Patrick, Joseph, and James—in a home filled with warmth, humor, and the occasional misadventure, as evidenced by the occasional damaged drywall. Mary’s professional journey spanned over 25 years at The Home Depot, where she was known for her unwavering dedication to her customers and the genuine friendships she cultivated with her coworkers. Her infectious laughter and warm smile were constants that brightened the days of those around her, and she had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Outside of work, Mary was a woman of diverse interests and passions. She was an avid gardener, finding joy and solace in nurturing her plants and flowers. Her role as a devoted hockey mom saw her cheering passionately from the sidelines, supporting her sons with unyielding enthusiasm and love. Mary also cherished her role as an expert Harley passenger, sharing countless adventures with her beloved Michael on the open road. Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for her pets, who were an integral part of her family. Mary was a woman who truly knew how to celebrate life. Her love for parties and family gatherings was unmatched, and her presence was always the heart of any occasion. Her legacy of joy, kindness, and hospitality will live on through her surviving family: her devoted husband, Michael; her sons and their spouses, Patrick and Deanna, Joseph and Hillary, and James and Lisa; her siblings Judy, John, and Paul; and her eight treasured grandchildren, Scarlet, Lena, Zinnia, Joseph, Donovan, Grey, Olivia, and Luke, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mary, and her brother, Donald. While her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, her spirit and love will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we gather to honor Mary’s life, we remember her as a beacon of light and love, a woman who embraced life with open arms and a full heart. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and a profound connection to family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date, where all who knew her are welcome to share in the joy of her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Mary's favorite charity, which supports community gardening initiatives—an enduring tribute to her passion for nurturing both plants and people. May she rest in peace, surrounded by endless gardens and the laughter of those she loved.
