Mary Antonia Alegre Ruiz Schuur

January 17, 1936 — July 6, 2026

Mary Antonia Alegre Ruiz Schuur, a beloved matriarch, artist, and compassionate soul, peacefully departed this world on July 6, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on January 17, 1936, in the quaint town of Huesca, nestled in the picturesque region of Aragon, Spain, Mary brought light and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary was the cherished daughter of Mariano and Maria Alegre, who instilled in her a profound appreciation for the arts and the importance of giving back to the community. Her early years were filled with the vibrant colors of Spanish culture, and she often celebrated her heritage through drawing, painting, playing the piano, and dancing the spirited Jota of Aragon. In 1960, Mary embarked on a new chapter of her life when she married the love of her life, Willem Schuur, on August 6th. Together they built a family rooted in love, respect, and understanding. Although Willem predeceased her, their bond remained a testament to enduring love. Mary dedicated her early years to being a devoted mother and homemaker, raising her children with unwavering love and nurturing. As her children grew, she expanded her nurturing spirit beyond her family, becoming deeply involved in social work. Her efforts to feed the homeless and care for tuberculosis patients in her community were a testament to her boundless compassion and selflessness. Mary's life was marked by both joy and sorrow. She experienced the heartbreaking loss of her son, Patrick Antonio Schuur, yet she persevered with grace and resilience, drawing strength from her surviving children: Jelle and Caroline Schuur, Astrid Malouf, Ramiro Schuur, and Ian Schuur, along with his wife, Deena Davis. Her legacy of love and kindness continues through her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart. Mary's gentle spirit, artistic talents, and dedication to helping others will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She was a woman of quiet strength, whose life was a canvas painted with love, generosity, and creativity. In honor of Mary's lifelong dedication to helping others, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to organizations that support the homeless and those battling tuberculosis. As we bid farewell to Mary Antonia Alegre Ruiz Schuur, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart that touched many, and a spirit that will continue to inspire. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Willem and Patrick, and forever cherished in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
