It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Anne Sanders, a beloved soul. Mary Anne departed this world on May 21, 2026, at the age of 73, at her home in Maroa, Illinois. Born on February 4, 1953, in Bloomington, Illinois, Mary Anne was loved and left an indelible mark on her family, friends, and community.
Mary Anne was the daughter of the late Clyde and Modena Sanders, who instilled in her the values of integrity, empathy, and dedication. She was predeceased by her loving brothers, Blair and Joe Sanders, and her devoted sisters, Dona Imig and Joan Miller, who have all welcomed her into the eternal embrace of family. Mary Anne is survived by her life partner, Tom Shockey, whose companionship and love were the cornerstones of her life, and her sister Jane Sanders, who shared countless memories and moments of joy and laughter with her.
A proud alumnus of Maroa Forsyth High School, Mary Anne pursued her passion for caring for others by obtaining her Bachelor of Nursing from Millikin University. Her dedication to her profession was evident in every patient she tended to, every colleague she supported, and every heart she touched. Mary Anne's gentle hands and kind words provided comfort and healing to countless individuals.
Mary Anne lived a life full of grace and compassion, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality,
In accordance with Mary Anne's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her memory and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Her family and close friends will gather to share stories, shed tears, and find solace in the love that she imparted so freely.
Though Mary Anne's physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and selflessness, and her memory will continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate the world without her.
