Mary Ann Savell

Mary Ann Savell, a cherished matriarch, steadfast friend, and beloved community member, was born on September 22, 1929, in Goose Creek, now known as Baytown, Texas. She departed this life on August 9, 2026, having spent 96 years surrounded by love and family, a testament to a life well-lived. Born to Bert and Mable Black, Mary Ann was raised with strong values that would guide her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her loving parents, grandparents, her brother, her husband James C. Savell, two sons, Danny and Jimmy, a daughter, Missy, and her grandson Clint Savell, as well as numerous cousins and dear friends. Mary Ann's legacy is one of enduring love and resilience, reflected in the lives of those who survive her, including her daughter Mindy Messick, granddaughters Tiphaine Justice and Renee Mullen, grandsons R.J. And wife Bre, James and wife Sylwia, Charlie and Stacy Davidson, and Jason Tallant, and their children. Mary Ann shared a beautiful life with James C. Savell, whom she married on August 6, 1948. Their union, which lasted until James's passing in October 1983, was filled with mutual support and devotion. Together, they embarked on numerous adventures, both professional and personal. Mary Ann was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and pursued higher education at Baylor and TCU before dedicating herself to her family. Her passion for learning never waned, leading her to re-enroll at Lee College in Baytown to explore interests such as sewing, upholstering, and computers. Her career was deeply intertwined with her family's legacy. Working alongside her parents at Black’s Pharmacy, she later helped her husband establish Black’s Pharmacy #2. Mary Ann's contributions were vital, ranging from delivering prescriptions to gift-wrapping and bookkeeping, always ensuring the business ran smoothly. A pillar of her community, Mary Ann was actively involved in her church and local hospital, extending her kindness and generosity to all. Her social circles were vast, including bridge groups, travel groups, and the cherished "Fun Bunch" — a testament to lifelong friendships. Mary Ann was a woman of many talents. She played golf, hunted with her husband, sewed clothing and reupholstered furniture for her children, and mastered knitting and crocheting. Her hands were rarely still, always creating and giving. Her intelligence and forthright nature defined her, but it was her compassion and generosity that left an indelible mark. Mary Ann was always ready to assist those in need, whether driving seniors to appointments or caring for her husband and mother with unwavering devotion. A service to honor Mary Ann's life will be held on August 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist Church, located at 3700 N. Hwy 146, Baytown, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist Church in Baytown. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all friends and family who contributed to Mary Ann's incredible life, and special thanks to those who provided comfort and care in her later years, particularly RJ and Bre, Eli, Alicia, and Angie who dedicated much of their time and energy to her support and care. Mary Ann Savell's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, kindness, and generosity. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
