Mary Ann Landy Waymire
August 31, 1940 — July 4, 2026
In keeping with her independent spirit, Mary Ann Landy Waymire departed from this world on July 4th, 2026 at Hope Hospice Center in Missoula, Montana, surrounded by love and fond memories. Born on August 31, 1940, in Granada Hills, California, Mary lived a life rich in love, laughter, and unparalleled dedication to her family and community.
Mary was the cherished daughter of Genevieve and Henry Landy. She found her soulmate in Bruce Waymire, marrying him on July 9, 1960, and together they embarked on an extraordinary journey. In 1967, they made the life-changing move from Northern California to the Bitterroot Valley in Montana with their two beloved daughters. There, the couple established their legacy by purchasing a ranch in Victor, where Mary became the heart and soul of their Gelbvieh cattle operation. Her tireless dedication earned their cattle numerous accolades at the Ravalli County Fair, with her birthday celebrations often coinciding with the fair, marked by gatherings over pepperoni pizza.
Mary was a nurturing and resourceful mother to her daughters, Charlotte Harmon (Dan) and Karen Stulc (Terry), instilling in them the values of hard work and compassion. Her grandchildren, Annie, Jill, Cassidy, and Cayden, along with her great-granddaughter, Junia, were the lights of her life. She also shared a special bond with her loyal dog, Tucker, who was always by her side.
After Bruce's passing in 2005, Mary honored his memory by exploring the world, visiting places like Alaska, Italy, Spain, Africa, and Australia. Her adventures were a testament to her unyielding spirit and thirst for life. Mary was known for her twinkling eyes and generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. Her emotional strength and fierce independence were hallmarks of her character, making her passing on Independence Day a poignant reflection of her life's essence.
Her family extends their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at Bitterroot, Community, and St. Patrick Hospitals, as well as the Hope Hospice Center, for their compassionate care during Mary's final days.
A celebration of Mary's life will take place on August 31, 2026, at the Bitterroot River Inn in Hamilton, Montana, where family and friends will gather to honor the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Bitterroot Humane Society, an organization close to Mary's heart.
Mary will forever be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering dedication, fierce independence and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who knew her. As her family, we are profoundly grateful for the time we shared with her and will carry her memory with us always.
