February 4, 1956 — September 18, 2026
Mary Ann Davis-Montgomery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, in the loving presence of her family. Born on February 4, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Mary Ann was a beacon of warmth and compassion throughout her life.
Mary Ann was the cherished daughter of Hazel Tubbs and Floyd Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Jackie and Laveron "Von"; her sister, Barbara; and her son-in-love, Daniel. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Ben, whom she met in 1980 and married on December 21, 1985. Together, they shared nearly 41 wonderful years of marriage, raising their children with love and dedication.
Mary Ann is survived by her siblings, Sandra and Floyd "Man"; her children, Juhan "Moe", Justin, Ben, and Chris (Christina); and her daughter-in-love, Angela (Steve). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kaiya, Justin "Poodie", Zaikeiyrah, Jeremiah, Julian, Armani, and Christyn, as well as her great-grandchildren, Donte and Dallas. Her extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless friends and bonus kids also mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
In the early 1990s, Mary Ann worked at the GM plants before dedicating herself as a stay-at-home mom, operating a State-funded babysitting and latchkey service. Later, she returned to the workforce as a Direct Care Worker, eventually managing adult group homes and contributing to the opening of new ones across Metro Detroit. Her career was a testament to her nurturing spirit and commitment to helping others.
A devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Mary Ann served on the praise team, the adult choir, and in the kitchen. Later, she found a new spiritual home at Breaking Chains Outreach Ministries COGIC, where she embraced her role as a church mother with grace and wisdom.
Mary Ann's interests were as vibrant as her personality. She was a masterful cook and baker, always active in her children's after-school activities. Her love for Bingo took her on frequent trips to Windsor, Canada. With a flair for creativity, she studied cosmetology, specializing in nail art, and was an avid DIY enthusiast. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she delighted in decorating trees and collecting ornaments to celebrate the season's joy.
A celebration of Mary Ann's life will be held on October 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at New Bethel MBC, located at 8450 Linwood St., Detroit, MI 48206. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mary Ann's memory to a charity of your choice or an organization that was close to her heart.
