It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marvin T. Betts, who departed this life peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Marvin graced this world with his presence on June 8, 1939, in Coldwater, Mississippi, as the cherished son of Marion Sr. and Pearlee Betts. Marvin's life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and resilience. Educated in the Coldwater School system, he was a man of integrity and wisdom, known for his quick wit and warm smile that could light up any room. He embraced life with a joyous spirit, finding delight in dancing and relishing the moments spent with his beloved family, whom he truly loved and appreciated. At an early age, Marvin accepted Christ into his life, becoming a dedicated member of St. Mary Baptist Church in his hometown. His faith journey continued throughout his life, culminating in his membership at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was a faithful congregant until his health began to decline. Marvin was married to Florine Betts, with whom , Together, they nurtured and raised five children: Marvin Betts Jr., Larry Betts, Jeremiah Betts and his wife Martina, Charlotte Hall, all residing in Detroit, Michigan, and Kenneth Betts and his wife Marlena, of Tampa, Florida. His family was his pride and joy, and his love extended to his 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends each of whom held a special place in his heart. Though Marvin has joined his parents, Marion Sr. and Pearlee Betts, his brothers Ivory Joe and Charles Irvin Betts, his sister Girtie Don Glasper, and his son Kelvin Betts in eternal rest, his memory continues to be cherished by his surviving siblings: Earline(Joe) Yancey, Marion Betts Jr., and Jeremiah Betts, all of Memphis, TN, and Shirley Betts-Hammond of New York. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Marvin retired from Ford Motor Company after 35 years of service. He worked as a mechanical engineer in which he was Known for mentoring young engineers and leading the team that designed the 1998 transmission system. Marvin's journey brought him back to Memphis 21 years ago, where he was reunited with his loving family. He resided with his sister, Earline who was his caregiver. His legacy of love and laughter will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of Marvin's life will be held on March 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2237 S. Parkway East. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a remarkable man whose life was a blessing to all. Marvin T. Betts leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith that will forever warm the hearts of those he touched. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
