Marvin Scales

Marvin Scales, beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, peacefully departed this world on August 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Born in Chicago on February 28, 1949, Marvin was the cherished son of the late Mabel and John Scales. He was a proud Chicagoan through and through, whose life was a testament to resilience, love, and community. Marvin's early life was marked by a deep bond with his twin sister, Martha, and his siblings Dorothy, Gloria, Bernice, Fatima, Ella, John Jr., and Oquencifer, all of whom preceded him in death. Despite the challenges of losing his siblings and parents, Marvin's spirit remained unbroken, and he carried their memories with him throughout his life. He found solace in Christ and regularly read the bible. Later in life, he attended St John United Church of Christ. He attended Marshall High School and The Illinois School for the Blind, where he developed a passion for helping others. Marvin later graduated from the Chicago School of Massage Therapy, where he honed his skills and embarked on a fulfilling career in massage therapy. For approximately 15 years, Marvin dedicated himself to his profession, providing care and comfort to countless individuals. Before finding his calling in massage therapy, Marvin held various odd jobs, each contributing to the rich tapestry of his life experiences. His work was a reflection of his innate kindness and his desire to make the world a better place. Marvin was a devoted father and step-father to his daughters, Sherrie and Silver Scales and step-daughter Meredith Glenn, who survive him. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who fondly remember the warmth and wisdom he shared with them. Marvin's legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the friendship, love, and care extended to Marvin throughout his life. They hold dear the support and kindness shown by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
