Marvin Dwayne Smith

Marvin Dwayne Smith, affectionately known to many as Thumper, entered this world on July 22, 1968, in the United States, and left us far too soon on June 25, 2022. Born to Rachel Rushing Smith and James David Smith Jr, Marvin was a cherished soul whose sudden departure from a heart attack at the age of 53 has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. A dedicated member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Marvin's faith was a cornerstone of his life. His journey in the oilfield industry spanned 25 years, marking him as a hardworking and respected professional. Yet, it was his roles as a loving husband, father, brother, and friend that truly defined him. Marvin was a devoted family man, deeply loved by his wife, Rachel Lee Rushing Smith, and their close-knit family, which includes his brothers, Dwayne Smith, Leeland Smith, and David Smith, and his sisters, Dianne Smith, Jerry Pearce, and Debbie Clark. Marvin’s legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his memory and the values he instilled. Music was Marvin's passion, and he expressed it beautifully through his guitar playing. His melodies resonated not only in the walls of his home but also in the hearts of his daughters and many friends with whom he shared countless jam sessions. He was a master of smoked brisket and cast iron peach cobbler, and he knew just where to cast his line for the best catch. Marvin's laughter, stories, and kindness were treasures to those lucky enough to experience them. Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marvin now joins them in eternal peace. His family, including his cherished wife of nearly three decades, mourns his passing but celebrates a life richly lived. A memorial service in his honor will be held on July 1, 2022, at 3:00 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church, where family and friends are invited to gather and share in the warmth of his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice. Marvin touched many lives with his generosity and warmth, and his spirit will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As his family poignantly expressed, "One of the good ones has left us too soon." He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
