It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin L. Walker, who departed this world on September 18, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on March 4, 1943, in Tallapoosa, Georgia, Martin was the beloved son of Herron Walker and Annie Rowell. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose love and kindness touched all who knew him.
Martin spent his formative years in Georgia, later graduating from Mary Crapo School in Swartz Creek. His strong work ethic led him to a remarkable 45-year career at General Motors, where he was known not only for his dedication but also for his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
In 1961, Martin married the love of his life, Rebecca Gordon. Together, they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage, raising three wonderful sons: Mike (Christine), Brad (Patty), and Doug (Stephanie). His family was his pride and joy, and he delighted in spending time with them, especially his cherished grandchildren: Billy, Whitney, Tony, Brandon, Katelyn, Cody, Becky Jo, Miranda, and Taylor. Martin was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Martin was precede in death by his parents, Herron and Annie, his brothers Roger and Lee, and his sister Annie Mae. He is survived by his devoted wife Rebecca, his children and their spouses, his grandchildren, his siblings Betty, Sonja, and Theresa, and a wealth of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A man of deep faith, Martin was a devoted member of the Eastgate Baptist Church for over 60 years and a proud Freemason. His life was a testament to his faith, spreading the gospel and serving the Lord in everything he did. Martin found great joy in helping others, always ready with a smile and a kind word.
In honor of his life and legacy, a memorial service will be held on October 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Eastgate Baptist Church, located at 4226 East Atherton Rd., Burton, Michigan. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Martin's memory to Eastgate Baptist Church, reflecting his lifelong commitment to faith and service.
Martin L. Walker will be remembered as a beacon of love and generosity, a man whose life's work was characterized by service to others and devotion to his family and faith. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
