Martha Robbins
April 17, 1931 — February 12, 2026
It is with profound sadness and heartwarming memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Martha Robbins on February 12, 2026, at the age of 94. Martha transitioned from this world surrounded by love at Maplewood Senior Living in Brewster, Massachusetts. Born on April 17, 1931, in East Orange, New Jersey, Martha was a beacon of kindness and a cherished soul to all who knew her.
Martha was the beloved daughter of Samuel and Florence Stewart, who preceded her in death, along with her dear son, Peter Robbins. She is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, William Robbins, whom she married on April 4, 1953, just before her college graduation. Their enduring love story was a testament to the strength of their bond and the foundations of family they built together.
Martha was a loving mother to her children, John Robbins (Roberta), Betsy Robbins, and Sally Bulger (Kurt). Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, Jessica Messina (Damian), Eric Bulger, Michelle Minyon (Michael), Rachel Barclay, and Elizabeth Robbins, and further to her great-granddaughter, Morgan Minyon, whose presence brought an extra twinkle to her eyes.
A graduate of East Orange High School, Martha furthered her education at New Jersey State Teachers College (now Kean University), earning a degree in Education in 1953. Her passion for teaching young minds led her to a fulfilling career as a kindergarten teacher in East Orange, NJ, where she worked from 1953 until 1957. After dedicating her early years to her family, she later embraced roles at a Jewish community center in Ewing, NJ, and the Houghton Mifflin Company, where she served as a switchboard operator, temporary employee, and advertising clerk.
Martha was not only dedicated to her family and career but also to her community and faith. As an active member of the Orleans United Methodist Church, she served faithfully as an usher and choir member, often delighting fellow parishioners with her baked goods during coffee hour. Her talents extended beyond the kitchen to her hobbies, which included baking, gardening, knitting, cross stitching, and solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles. These activities brought her joy and comfort, much like the time she cherished with her family.
Known for her kind and caring nature, Martha always wore a smile that could light up a room. She had a special place in her heart for children, and her warmth and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of love, resilience, and devotion, woven with threads of cherished memories that her family and friends will forever hold dear.
A service to honor Martha's life will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the wonderful woman she was. Though she will be deeply missed, Martha's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
