Martha Jean Howlett

July 11, 1949 — June 1, 2026

It is with profound sadness and yet a deep sense of gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Martha Jean Howlett, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Martha departed this world peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by the love and care of her family and the dedicated staff at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, whose kindness the family profoundly appreciates. Born on July 11, 1949, in East St. Louis, IL, Martha was the cherished daughter of Eva Eiskant. She grew up in a family that valued togetherness, humor, and kindness—qualities that Martha carried with her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Robert P. Howlett Jr., her beloved sons, Kirk Howlett and Lester Eiskant, as well as her siblings Elizabeth and Bruce Eiskant. Martha shared 49 beautiful years of marriage with her soulmate, Robert P. Howlett, until his passing. Together they nurtured a family filled with love, laughter, and warmth. She leaves behind her loving children, Keith Howlett (Corrine), Kim Howlett, Kent Howlett (Linda), Maribeth Ord, and Chad Howlett. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Zach, Cody, Daniel, Kirk Jr., and Brooke, and her four great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Martha was a pillar of her community and a beacon of joy to all who knew her. Her quick wit and warm smile were her trademarks, always ready with a joke to lift spirits and make everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, touching countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have been in her presence. An active member of the Shiloh Eagles 545 Ladies Auxiliary Organization, Martha's passion for service was evident in her many roles, including serving as the Auxiliary Vice President, and previously, as the State President and State Secretary. Her dedication to the Eagles and her commitment to bringing joy and laughter to those around her were unwavering. The family has chosen to celebrate Martha's life in a private ceremony, respecting her wishes for an intimate farewell. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the Shiloh Eagles, an organization dear to Martha's heart. Martha’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, whose care and kindness made her last days peaceful. Martha Jean Howlett will be remembered as a woman of incredible warmth and generosity, whose life was a testament to the power of kindness and love. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with those she dearly missed, in the comforting embrace of God's love.
