Martha Jane

Martha Jane, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend, departed this world on August 30, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on March 8, 1934, in the serene community of Minden, Texas, Martha was the cherished daughter of Willie J. and Verdie Marie Welch. Her upbringing in Minden and Carlisle instilled in her a deep sense of community and faith, which she carried with her throughout her life. Martha, affectionately known as Jane, was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1954. Her education laid the foundation for a life filled with love, service, and dedication to those around her. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Frances Lock, Billy Welch, and Jimmy Welch, her devoted husband, Charles Leon Williams, and her son, James Stephen Haskins. Despite these profound losses, Martha continued to radiate warmth and resilience, nurturing a close-knit family and an extensive circle of friends. Her surviving family members include her loving daughter, Sherri Haskins, her brother Larry Welch, sister-in-law Sharron, her sister Gloria Garber, brother-in-law Howard, sister-in-law Sheila Welch and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and their families. Martha's life was further enriched by the presence of her grand nieces, nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and her lifelong friends in East Texas, along with her special Mahjong crew and Plantation Park neighbors. Martha's faith was a guiding light in her life. She was a dedicated member of several churches in Texas, including Zion Hill Baptist Church in Minden, Good Spring Baptist Church in Good Springs Community, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Henderson, Flint Baptist Church in Flint, and Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler. Her melodious voice was a constant presence in church choirs, where she found joy in singing praises. A true nurturer at heart, Jane had a passion for gardening. Her love for flowers was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned her home. She was also an extraordinary cook, known for her delicious homemade pies, cakes, and cookies, which she shared generously with family and friends. Through her culinary creations, she expressed love and warmth, bringing people together with every meal. Martha was deeply committed to serving her community. Her years of volunteering with the Salvation Army Service League in Tyler, Texas were a testament to her selflessness and compassion. Her friendships, cultivated from childhood into late adulthood, were marked by love, kindness, and unwavering support. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at The Forum Assisted Living Dallas, Avolon Memory Care Dallas, and Lifted Hospice Dallas for their love and kindness during Martha's final days. A service to honor Martha's life will be held at Zion Hill Cemetery and Church, located on County Road 3125 S, Minden, TX 75680. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Zion Hill Cemetery Fund, in memory of Martha's enduring faith and love for her community. Martha Jane's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, friendship, and faith. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
