With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Martha Boggan Grimes, lovingly known as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. Martha, born on May 11, 1938, in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on March 21, 2026, surrounded by love, as she peacefully slept.
Martha was the cherished daughter of the late Clarence Findley Boggan and Martha Slattery Boggan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Grimes, Sr., with whom she shared a beautiful, 51-year marriage filled with love and companionship. Together, they built a life that celebrated family, faith, and community.
Martha’s legacy lives on through her loving children: Martha Elizabeth "Lesa" Grimes Carroll and her husband, Phillip, Laura "Lynn" Grimes Abboud and her husband, Bechara, and Joseph Grimes, Jr. and his wife, Marivi. Her nurturing spirit and wisdom will also be forever cherished by her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and celebrated.
Martha was a woman of great intellect and determination, demonstrated by her pursuit of education. She began her academic journey at Auburn University in Alabama, later completing her Bachelor’s Degree at St. Leo University in Florida. Her passion for helping others led her to achieve a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. Throughout her professional career, she maintained a private psychological counseling practice, offering guidance and comfort to many. Additionally, she assisted her husband in managing their family business, showcasing her versatility and dedication.
A pillar of her community, Martha’s faith was a guiding light in her life. As a long-standing member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, she actively volunteered in numerous service organizations through the church. Her memberships included the Women's Club, Girl Scouts, Images Festival of the Arts, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and St. Vincent de Paul, among others. Her commitment to service and her unwavering faith were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Martha’s adventurous spirit was evident in her love for travel. She and Joseph explored the world together, creating unforgettable memories. Even amidst her busy schedule, she always found time to spend with friends and family, embracing life with open arms and a warm heart.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held on April 23, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 998 Father Donlon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in honoring her remarkable life.
