In Loving Memory

Martha Ann rucker
September 8, 1941 — June 1, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Martha Ann Rucker, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Martha departed this world peacefully on June 1, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on September 8, 1941, in Statesville, North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of John Thomas Baker, Sr., and Ethel Rucker.
Martha's life was a testament to unwavering love, resilience, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, John Thomas Baker, Sr., and her devoted husband of 52 years, Hatchet Emmitt Rucker, who passed away on December 21, 2018. Together, they built a life rich in love and family, a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew them.
Martha was a nurturing presence in the lives of her family and community. She leaves behind a tapestry of love and memories, cherished by her daughters, Virginia Baker, Nicole Rucker, and Danielle Glaspy, all of Statesville. Her grandsons, Joshua Keaton (Amanda) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Charles Belton Keaton II of Reno, Nevada, brought her immense pride and joy. Her lineage continues through her great-grandchildren, Cha'Quan, Edmyrion, Ny'rik, Ty'chon, Elijah, and Jeremiah, and her great-great-grandchild, Ja'Sonii, each a precious branch of her family tree that she nurtured with boundless affection.
In addition to her immediate family, Martha's heart was expansive, embracing four step-daughters, three step-sons, twelve step-grandchildren, twenty-eight step-great-grandchildren, and twenty-four step-great-great-grandchildren. Her extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will forever remember her generosity and warmth. Two particularly dear friends, Andy Reid and Shirley Hayden, will hold Martha's memory close, a testament to the profound connections she fostered throughout her life.
Martha dedicated many years as a housekeeper at long-term care nursing facilities, where she transformed her workplace into a haven of compassion and kindness. Her role extended beyond maintaining order; she offered dignity and warmth to all she encountered, touching countless lives with her steady kindness and outgoing spirit.
A woman of simple pleasures, Martha found joy in cooking, and her biscuits were legendary within her family—a symbol of comfort and love, shared freely and often. Her fondness for the color purple, Butterfingers, and chips were small delights that brought her joy and will forever bring a smile to those who knew her best.
Though Martha's family and friends will gather for a private funeral ceremony to honor her memory, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. As we say goodbye to a remarkable woman, we celebrate the love, resilience, and light she brought into our lives.
Martha Ann Rucker's legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. May she rest in peace, embraced by the love she so generously shared during her time with us.
