Martha Cook

February 15, 1953 — November 1, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Martha Cook, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on November 1, 2026. Born in Newton, North Carolina, on February 15, 1953, Martha was the cherished daughter of the late John and Anna Cook. She was predeceased by her parents and her dear brother, James. Martha's journey through life was marked by her marriage to Sonny Cook on December 16, 1972, in Hickory, North Carolina. Together, they shared 54 beautiful years, raising their children, James, David, and Pamela, in a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. Martha's legacy extends through her five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will carry her loving spirit forward. A proud graduate of East Side High School in 1969, Martha pursued her passion for healing by earning a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from St. Augustine’s University. Her dedication to her field was exemplified through her 32-year service at Catawba Valley Medical Center, where she touched countless lives with her expertise and compassion. Martha's life was enriched by her active membership in the Maiden Chapel Baptist Church for over 35 years and her involvement with the American Legion. Known for her warm smile that could light up any room, Martha had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew her. In honor of her life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on November 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Christ Alive Church, located at 1549 Southwest Blvd. The service will include heartfelt prayers, hymns, and words of remembrance, culminating in a eulogy that celebrates Martha's remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Martha’s memory to the African American Alzheimer's and Wellness Association, based in Westerville, OH. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, support, and kindness shown during this difficult time. As they remember Martha, they find comfort in the love and support of those around them. Her memory will forever be cherished, held "Forever in our hearts." May the road rise to meet you, Martha, and may God hold you in the palm of His hand until we meet again.
