Marsha Timko

Marsha Timko, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on August 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 10, 1944, in New Brunswick, NJ, Marsha was the cherished daughter of the late Jack and Mary Phelps. She is predeceased by her sister Mary and her devoted husband, James Charles Timko, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage from June 1966 until his passing in 2023. Marsha's journey was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1962 and Douglas College in 1966, embodying a passion for learning and growth. Her early career as a home economics teacher was a testament to her nurturing spirit and dedication to education. This path gracefully transitioned into her most cherished role as a full-time mother following the birth of her first child, Jennifer, in 1968. As her children grew, Marsha contributed her talents to Personal Products in Milltown, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Family was the cornerstone of Marsha's life. She was the proud mother of Donna Tan and her husband Jon Welsh, Jennifer Hanley and her husband Brian, and James Timko and his wife Jamie. Her legacy continues to shine brightly through her grandchildren—Monique, Megan, Elizabeth, Amanda, Casey, and Ruby—and her great-granddaughter, Kendall. Her youngest grandchild, Madelyn Timko, was a particular joy in her later years. Marsha's hands were rarely still; she found joy in crocheting and sewing, creating beautiful garments, including her daughters' prom dresses. Her artistic spirit extended to painting, where she captured the beauty she saw in the world around her. Evenings spent playing backgammon in front of the TV with James were a cherished ritual, a symbol of the simple joys they shared. Known for her quick wit and love of laughter, Marsha was a beacon of wisdom and humor, always ready with a kind word or a joke. Her strength and guidance were the bedrock for her family, and her open heart and listening ear were a source of comfort and counsel to many. In addition to her immediate family, Marsha leaves behind a community of friends and extended family who will miss her deeply. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Merrill Gardens for the compassionate care and support provided to Marsha in her later years.
