In Loving Memory

Marsha Swartz
February 17, 1944 — March 14, 2026
It is with a profound mix of sadness and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Marsha Swartz, a remarkable woman who graced this world for 82 vibrant years. Born on February 17, 1944, in Lewiston, Idaho, Marsha departed this world on March 14, 2026. Her final days were spent in the loving company of her family and at a care facility, surrounded by the warmth and love she had given so freely throughout her life.
Marsha was the beloved daughter of Galen and Jean Buchanan, who instilled in her the values of kindness, strength, and an adventurous spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Cheryl Petty. Her legacy continues through her devoted husband, Edward Swartz, with whom she celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage, having wed on September 11, 1965, in their hometown of Lewiston. Together, they crafted a life filled with love, forgiveness, and shared dreams.
A cherished sister to Larry Buchanan, Marsha’s family was her pride and joy. She was the loving mother to Adrian Swartz and Alia Turner, who, along with their spouses, shared many joyous memories with her. Marsha was also the adored grandmother of four beautiful grandchildren: Amaya Turner, Zarina Turner, Emaan Swartz, and Armon Swartz, who will forever carry her spirit and love in their hearts.
Marsha pursued her education with vigor, graduating from the University of Idaho before furthering her studies in International Studies at the University of Oregon. Her career was marked by a dedication to service and community, from substituting in the Eugene School District 4J to her impactful work with the Eugene Housing Authority, where she remained until her retirement.
A woman of varied interests and boundless compassion, Marsha’s life was a tapestry of vibrant experiences. Her time in the Peace Corps in Uganda was a testament to her adventurous and giving nature, where she famously raised a baby baboon. After retirement, she devoted herself to the farm life she so loved, supporting her mother Jean Buchanan’s dreams and caring deeply for the family legacy. Her love for the oldies, the sky blue of a clear day, the San Francisco Bay, cold beer, and Mexican food was as much a part of her as her unwavering strength and acceptance.
Marsha was a world traveler, a member of the Zen Center, and a socially conscientious soul who always did the right thing, even when it did not benefit her personally. Her kindness and headstrong nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
In accordance with Marsha’s wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Marsha’s name to Heifer International, an organization that reflects her commitment to giving and helping others. Contributions can be made at Heifer International.
Marsha Swartz's life was a symphony of love, kindness, and adventure. As we bid farewell, we celebrate the indelible legacy she leaves behind—a life that touched many, inspired more, and will forever be remembered with warmth and admiration.
