Marlene (Ranzy) Washington

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Marlene (Ranzy) Washington, who left this world on July 25, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 5, 1938, in the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio, Marlene was the beloved daughter of Sam and Bertha Meredith, who preceded her in death. Marlene's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. Raised in a bustling household, she was the cherished sister of Cornelius (Betty), Sarah, Clarence (Helena), Claude (Roosevelt), Sam Jr., and Helen, all of whom have also passed. Despite these deep losses, Marlene remained a pillar of strength and the matriarch of her family, guiding and nurturing those around her with unwavering grace and wisdom. Marlene was a devoted wife to Fred for fifty-one wonderful years. Together, they built a loving family, and she is survived by her children, Henry (Iris), Giselle, and Helyne. Marlene was also blessed with two added children, Renee (Verise) and Johnny Sr. (Renee), and cherished her loving granddaughter Darniesha. She also shared a special bond with Johnny Jr., lovingly known as Lil Johnny. Education was always important to Marlene. She attended Cleveland Public Schools and went on to earn a master's degree from Meyers Business School. Her passion for creativity was evident in her work as a master cake decorator, a skill she shared with others as an instructor at Jane Adam's Vocational School. Her professional journey included fulfilling roles at General Motors, where she worked until her retirement, as well as being a skilled seamstress at Bobbie Brooks. She also graced the aisles of Sears and J.C. Penny and served as the head cake decorator for Fisher Fazio. Beyond her career, Marlene was an active and devoted member of her community. She was a member of the Church of God and played a significant role at Service Master by Washington. Her faith and dedication to service were constants throughout her life. A celebration of Marlene's life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 PM at Eventspace, located at 4008 E. 131st, Cleveland, Ohio. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor Marlene's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the a (2nd) Chance Outreach Program, an organization close to Marlene's heart. The family would like to extend their gratitude for each call, visit, and condolence received during this difficult time, which have been a source of comfort and strength. Marlene Washington leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication. She touched countless lives with her generosity and kindness, and her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
