Marlene (Ranzy) Washington

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Marlene (Ranzy) Washington, who left this world on July 18, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on January 5, 1938, in the vibrant city of Cleveland, Ohio, Marlene was the beloved daughter of Sam and Bertha Meredith, who preceded her in death. Marlene's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. Raised in a bustling household, she was the cherished sister of Cornelius (Betty), Sarah, Clarence (Helen), Claudelle (Roosevelt), Sam Jr., Helena, Renee, and Johnny Sr., all of whom have also passed. Despite these deep losses, Marlene remained a pillar of strength and the matriarch of her family, guiding and nurturing those around her with unwavering grace and wisdom. A proud alumna of Cleveland Public Schools, Marlene pursued higher education with determination and achieved a Master's Degree from Meyers Business College. Her career was as diverse as it was distinguished, beginning as a seamstress at Bobbie Brooks and continuing at General Motors until her retirement. Yet, retirement was merely a new chapter for Marlene, as she channeled her creativity and passion into becoming a master cake decorator and instructor at Jane Adams Career School, as well as at retail giants like Sears and J.C. Penney. She further showcased her talents as the head cake decorator for Fisher Fazio. Not one to be confined to a single path, Marlene also honed her skills to become a paralegal. After retiring, Marlene's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she opened her own business, Service Master by Washington. Her commitment to community and faith was evident in her active participation as a devoted member of the Church of God and Christ, where she found joy and purpose. Marlene was a devoted wife to her beloved Fred for fifty-one remarkable years. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter. She is survived by her children, Henry Jr. (Iris), Gizell, and Helyne, also a Grandaughter Darneisha who carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Marlene's pride and joy extended to her grandchild, who was the light of her life. Known for her warmth and generosity, Marlene touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was loved and cherished by everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and joy. A celebration of Marlene's life will be held at the EventSpace of Cleveland, located at 4008 East 131st. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice. Marlene's spirit will forever illuminate the lives of those she loved and the community she served. Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
